Vermont Health Commissioner Mark Levine, M.D., professor of medicine and associate dean for graduate medical education at the Larner College of Medicine, retired at the end of March 2025. In a March 24 interview, Vermont Edition asked him to reflect on his career, and on the future of public health in Vermont.
During National Public Health Week April 7–13, it’s worth noting some of the major public health concerns Levine has addressed over the course of his tenure; these include opioid addiction, teen substance use, lead exposure, respiratory viruses, and—of course—COVID-19.
