OACM Census Cards
Body
Every IACUC Protocol has a census card for each room in which their animals are held. Only the "Weans(+) and Culls (-)" column directly affects the number of animals reported to the IACUC; other columns are used to track the number and location of cages.
To learn how to mark a census card, see our OACM Census (PDF) instructions.
OACM census counts serve three important purposes:
- Census tracks the number of cages on a Protocol for fair and accurate billing (per diems).
- Census contributes information about animal usages on a Protocol (weans and culls). We provide animal usage information to the IACUC.
- Federal Auditors routinely request copies of Census Cards to back up OACM per diem charges. Inaccurate cards that require excessive mark up can be a red flag for auditors to "dig deeper."
